Indian Army Patrols Kashmir, 3 Protesters Killed

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=128213041

This article looks at the violence that has been prevalent in Kashmir throughout the summer most recently resulting in the death of 3 protesters. The contested region is majority Muslim but governed by Hindu India. The strong show of force by the government is an effort to quell the separatist movement which has been brewing since 1989.

I am familiar with this particular conflict, but had not been following the most recent troubles that have befallen the region. Reading this article, I feel I have a better understanding of what is currently going on from the perspective of both parties. From the outside looking in, I feel like there is a lot to this current struggle that I can not fully understand the depth of what the people of Kashmir deal with on a regular basis. I'm eager to continue learning more about this issue.

The relationship or tension between Muslim and other religions in India is fascinating. The conflict between Pakistan and India is something I have studied and continue to study. Particularly the idea that pre-seperation there have been many scholars who have researched how much of the conflict was fictionalized by radicals on both sides seeking their own agendas. The same can be said about Serbia. It can't help but make you wonder what the true motivation is for this uproar in violence.
